Our three-week trip to Mgora, Tanzania, was an intense and enriching experience, during which we not only advanced the registration of our association as an NGO but also implemented numerous projects to provide practical support to the local people.
Once again, we were able to bring four suitcases full of donated clothing and hygiene products to Mgora and distribute them to families in need. We also spent a lot of time at the TENEBO kindergarten, working closely with the teachers to support the education of the children. The gratitude from the community was overwhelming, and our association, TENEBO, has now gained a significant reputation and recognition, which fills us with pride.
Here are some additional initiatives we were able to implement:
1,200 kg of maize for families in need
Thanks to a donation from board member Jasmine and two other donors, we were able to support 12 families by donating a 100 kg bag of maize to each. Maize meal is used to prepare Ugali, the staple food of the community. Due to climate change, maize harvests are often poor or fail entirely. Depending on the size of the family, 100 kg of maize can feed them for up to a month.
Hygiene kits for young women
Thanks to a fabric donation, we were able to provide 10 girls with hygiene kits today. Each kit consists of underwear, two cloth pads, several replaceable insert pads, and razors. The cloth pads were handmade by us with great care and dedication. These hygiene products are a huge help to the girls. Since it is a very private matter, we did not take any photos out of respect during the distribution.
We hope to be able to provide more girls with hygiene kits in the future.
Health Course
With TENEBO, we aim not only to provide education for children but also to help families and the community. One initiative towards this goal is a series of courses for adults to pass on important knowledge. Today, we held the first course on health with a trusted and knowledgeable doctor from the region. It was an educational course on common illnesses, their prevention, detection, and treatment. Future medical courses will cover topics such as women’s health, men’s health, childbirth, and much more.
Medical supplies for the hospital
We were also able to donate bandages and medical supplies to the hospital in the nearby town of Mafisa. The picture below shows only a small part of the donation. Dr. Athumani and his nurse were extremely grateful. Unfortunately, many small hospitals in the region often lack the proper equipment to care for patients adequately. With this donation, we are supporting them in providing better care, and at the same time, the patients do not have to pay for the materials used.
On-site were Melanie and Emmanuel. The trip was, of course, privately funded.
